| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Superb lagers and ales brewed on site, from the classic Beskydsky Lezak to creative ales and seasonal specials. Standard back bar complimented by some homemade liqueurs with distillation including fruit from their own orchards. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A modern looking and modern branded brewery, industrial operation upon entry via the car park. Outdoor seating adjacent to the outbuildings. Inside, country comfort awaits with a traditional Gaststatte style setup. The taproom has the most character but it is pleasant too in the dining hall. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ An occasionally jarring union of tradition and modernity, with the transient custom you’d expect from a village in a hiking area. Nevertheless, friendly service, a sense of being ‘away from it all’ and the warmth and comfort of a good hostelry create the feeling of a hikers pub even though it’s a brewery. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Food, snacks, rental space, shop (homemade cheeses), outdoor seating, merchandise, farm. |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️ Considering the beer is being bought direct from the site, not exactly eye-catching pricing. |
| Description | For years we’ve been enjoying Beskydy brewery’s wares, usually in Brno, Olomouc or Ostrava, but never at the taproom. In 2024 we finally made it – an easy train ride away from Frydek-Mistek into a semi-rural area surrounded by hills, a typically Czech landscape but bordering on Slovakia. Established in 2012-2013, part of a new wave of independent breweries that sprung up across the country, there has since its inception been an interplay between a need to respect tradition and their rural surroundings, while indulging their creative urges and modern tastes. That is very much on display at the brewery, as you round a corner to be confronted by a large yellow grain silo, modern branding and a fairly sleek looking operation. Inside however, country comforts away, with a traditionally decorated Gaststatte type dining hall and taproom. Acres of trees gone into the wood fittings, with quirky elements like the tiled stove adding to the atmosphere. The taproom is clearly the place to be, but unfortunately they allow reservations rather than using that limited space as a casual social space, and the dining area for reservations and food. That is room for improvement. Pricing is ambitious for a rural Czech brewery, clocking in at only OK considering you are purchasing the beer direct from the site, and the food menu likewise. It is a good job both food and beer are high quality. Their lagers certainly compete with some of the best in the region, with an equal, if not greater focus on ales. This gives reason to stay and explore the range. I can recommend using this place for a middle or end stop after a hike in the surrounding hills, to Lysa Hora for example. The atmosphere inside has that feel of wandering hikers, a slightly heady feel of everyone having travelled here to get away from it all. As it’s only 30-40 minutes from Ostrava with a straight forward train journey, this should give plenty of pause for thought. We can recommend the place. (Added October 2024) |
