Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the best Zoiglbiers around, a dry bitter unfiltered Kellerbier that is almost touching over in flavour and character with unfiltered Czech světlý ležák. Everything else is an afterthought, however it must be said there are local wines and an array of brandies/schnapps derived from interesting fruits and plants too.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A large venue up near the top of town, enter via garage doors then down a slope to a beer garden, long and rectangular leading to further seating in a garage/warehouse. Inside there’s a large, low ceilinged kitchen type setup with pub tables.

Value For Money❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the best price:performance ratios in Germany, well above average for the wares in terms of quality and quantity. Close to astonishing.
DescriptionOne of the Oberpfalz’ Zoigl pubs, a culture that is unique, alien even, but fascinating. A tiny few families in the region share a communal brewery, making their own creations then open their doors to the public on rotation a few days a month.

Here at Neuhaus, the adjoined town to Windischeschenbach, the entire high street seems to be Zoigl pubs. At Kack’n you’ll find one of the best around.

The garden itself is what will greet you through what seems to be a garage driveway, extending down the row of tables and canopy to a converted garage/warehouse accommodating tables. On summer evenings the atmosphere is alive with enjoyment and hospitality, as well as different age groups and neighbours. It really is an almost idyllic image of social pubgoing. This extends to the interior which again despite the size feels homely and like being in someone’s house, or at least guest house rather than a commercial entity.

This is accentuated by meeting and speaking to the owner and brewer himself, a jolly, moustachioed chap who in all ways seems to be loving life. Why not, with this reward for your hard work?

I would say this was the one non-negotiable Zoigl venue of our 2023 visit, somewhere to plan your trip around.

Check if it’ll be open before you go, as Zoigl pubs are only ever open a few days each month.(Added August 2023)
