Cafe frontage with shallow terrace leading into a well preserved 1970s cafe bar, a long bar top running across the left of the room. Personalised and relevant feeling with retro posters, polaroids etc. Several fridges in the interior for beers.

Both historic and relevant feeling, this is a great example of how to take the best of the past with you into the future. Can vary from elderly locals enjoying their morning coffee to busy lunches with workers ordering sandwiches, to the in-crowd arriving for Aperitivo after work.

Description:
Opened in 1969, Bar Picchio is one of the few Milanese establishments to resist the fashions and economic churns which this city has typically fallen prey to.

Today, you’ll find not only its preserved classical 1970s interior, but touches in the decoration, the products and the audience that explain why it is relevant and seemingly as popular as ever.

Opened originally by a young couple whose children, Felice and Carmen have inherited and taken on the task of ensuring survival into the 21st century.

They offer freshly made sandwiches and a vast array of beers from around Europe in several fridges positioned in the bar.

There’s a small terrace under awnings, but inside you’ll find the bar has been -sympathetically- pimped up with retro posters and personalised nik-naks. The famous polaroid wall has been removed and repositioned.

Located near the Porta Venezia, this place is as good as any to begin your exploration of Milan’s bar scene, whether during the day, or later on when Aperitivo starts.
