Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️
A familiar roster of Czech beers and liquor overall. It’s fine, but improving the selection would really fit the final missing piece to propel the bar to the top.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Entrance from a sloped street into somewhat of a bunker. Pale pink walls and curved supports in a half basement. Simple, humble furnishings. Small overflow area near the entrance, then a larger pub room with bar to the right and stage to the left.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A clandestine feel, with an an alternative crowd. Not somewhere to take a date for dinner, but a rawer authenticity about it that would suit groups of friends or interested partners.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Live events, music, poetry, comedy, culture, snacks
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️❤️
Entirely fair value for money given the location.
DescriptionIn amongst the increasingly changed, wealthy Vinohrady district where businesses are inspired by global trends, it’s reassuring to find a backstreet pub focusing on continuing Czech traditions, feeling in no way obliged to compromise in order to fit in. You’ll find an operation similar to the far more famous “Shot Eye” (U Vystrelenyho oka) in Žižkov.

As well as its low key, unpretentious setup, decorated by its history and feeling of continuity, they host cultural events spanning from poetry (unsurprising given the pub name) to music and more besides, changing on a regular basis.

There was a time in the 1990s where bars like these would have been common around these districts, but as of the time of writing it feels more like one of a dying breed.

There is no sense of decay when visiting here however, its vibrance feeling at the heart of Prague’s alternative scene, providing many times over more to the city than the umpteenth brunch bar.

If they expanded their drinks offering this would propel the place to stardom, but even with that last box to tick, you will barely find a better pub of its kind in the country.

A final twist – the pub plays host to its own political party in the grand tradition of Jaroslav Hašek, that has been contesting elections since the early 00s.
