Description:
Think of Europe’s famous nightlife districts. The Reeperbahn. Soho. Kazimierz. District VII. Navigli. They trip off the tongue. Wojciecha Bogusławskiego in the city of Wrocław, Poland? Not so much! On the lead-in eastwards into the main station, Wrocław Główny, locomotives travel along a lengthy viaduct that runs parallel to Wojciecha Bogusławskiego street. It is under those arches that you’ll find 30+ bars and restaurants stretching on and on west of the station. in the 1990s after the end of the PRL-era, alongside the usual vice-adjacent businesses, bars began to spring up. Most of those originals are today gone, but there are traces of the era: sex shops remain and old stagers like Pociąg from 2004, the tail end of that era.

Bałagan adopts a similar style. Not as Jazzy as the above, or Swing Bar a few doors down, but there’s a deliberate effort to age and pubbyify the venue. The continuity of bars really is quite remarkable, as the consistent layout feels like you’re watching the same bar try on different clothing.

As with many of the viaduct bars there’s Czech lager and Polish craft to choose from – more here than several elsewhere. Charged at the going rate, along with typical late bar offerings prepared at a compact corner bar at the far end of the room.

With a TV above the entrance it is perhaps more of an all-rounder than some but certainly no less distinctive. It turned in to one of our favourites.
