Description:
Since its opening Trofeja has, seemingly with ease, risen to the ranks of first one or two top venues in Riga to head to if you enjoy a beer.

Aside of the hype, the truth is a little more straightforward. Less dazzling but not unworthy.

It’s an effective social space both inside and out. As you approach you’ll notice a colourful mural on the building facing the courtyard, and on entering you’ll find a compact interior with wood fittings and tables around a central leaning post, with bar to the rear.

A spacious courtyard is especially popular in summer and one of the places to be.

Trofeja is also a brewery, claiming to be the smallest in Latvia. Small batches of brews mean there is an ever-changing selection to keep things interesting.

So why the slightly dampening of expectations? Well – it’s still a really good bar and one you should go to – not many better in Riga, but don’t go expecting the real fireworks that make certain bars around Europe really stand out.

In the end, there’s a fairly humble approach despite the over-exposure which I especially liked and hope they continue with.

The pizza is seriously hyped here, but on the evidence of mine, I wouldn’t bother unless you’re hungry and/or it’s convenient. Pretty average.

Anyway, you’ll find nice helpful service, interesting drinks, a convivial social setting and a venue that works in different ways in all seasons. Get stuck in!
